Job Description
Bishop & Co. is seeking an Project Engineer for an excellent construction company.
The Project Engineer provides administrative and technical support to the project team to ensure proper execution of the contract. Understands plans and specifications of the project. Coordinates, monitors, and tracks various project documentation. Assists the project team through the construction process efficiently, professionally, safely, within budget, and on schedule. Works as a team member in conjunction with project management staff as well as estimators, architects, owners, subcontractors, and the public. May oversee the functions of the Junior or Assistant Project Engineer and Project Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned. Duties may be delegated to direct reports.
Cost Reporting
- Assists with the establishment of the cost report breakdown with input from project team
- Assists in the measurement/inputting of quantities in the cost report
- Assists in the forecast cost variances on a monthly basis
- Assists in identifying, tracking, and maintaining cost reports, which accurately reflects the progress of the project
- Assists with processing of all paper work in accordance with Accounting department policies and procedures
- Assists in maintaining job cost reports and schedule, tracks budget vs. estimate, and schedule vs. actual progress
- Assists with preparation and maintenance of monthly job reconciliation report
- Assists with analyzing labor production trends and optimizing productivity
- Creates/prepares/maintains all project documentation including the following:
- Correspondence
- RFI’s
- Logs
- Submittals
- Assists in preparing, receiving, and maintaining all project documentation including the following:
- Contract
- Contract Document
- Subcontracts
- Contract and Subcontract Change Orders
- Inspection Certificates
- Purchase Orders
- Delivery Tags
- Invoices
- Pay Requests
- Meeting Minutes
- Lien Releases
- Safety records
- Permits
- Inspection & testing reports
- Punchlists
- Bonds
- Closeout reports
- Warranties
- Owner Manuals
- As-Built Drawings
Purchasing
- Assists with the solicitation of competitive pricing for all materials purchased
- Assists with confirming materials meet specification requirements
- Assists with reviewing substantial purchases with project team prior to commitment
- Assists with the preparation of all Purchase Orders
- Assists with maintaining the Purchase Order log
- Assists with checking deliveries against delivery tags
- Assists with cost coding invoices and attaching delivery tags for processing by Accounting
- Assists with execution of rental agreements for tools and equipment
- Assists with monitoring inventory and ensuring proper maintenance of rentals
- Assists with ensuring rentals are returned timely and in working condition
- Reviews and ensures compliance with prime contract requirements
- Assists with preparing all change proposals and change orders to the prime contract with input from the project team
- Assists with the preparation of subcontracts with input from project team
- Confirms subcontract requirements conform with prime contract and construction documents
- Assists with the preparation of change orders to subcontracts with input from project team
- Assists with the maintenance of the change order log for prime and subcontracts
- Ensures compliance with project drawings and specifications
- Assists with documentation of R.C.s
- Assists with the preparation and maintenance of the R.C. log
- Assists with preparation and monitoring of submittal log (see master forms)
- Assists with processing of submittals
- Assists with reviewing of submittals for compliance with construction documents, including correct dimensions, compatibility, coordination with other trades, and completeness
- Assists with transmitting and tracking of submittals pursuant to project submittal process
- Assists with the preparation of the project schedule with input from project team
- Assists with maintaining a current project schedule, updating weekly to track progress
- Transmits schedule information to subcontractors and owner on a regular basis and keeps them apprised of project progress
- Assists with alerting the project team of schedule slippage
- Assists with the preparation and maintenance of detailed 4-week schedule Pay Requests
- Assists with the preparation of pay requests for submission to Owner; including lien releases and all required documentation
- Assist in reviewing subcontractor and vendor pay requests
- Assists with the preparation of monthly project reports which includes the following:
- Project highlights
- Owner issues
- Updated schedule
- Updated project logs
- Updated cost forecast
- Assists with procurement of permits
- Assists with ensuring project remains in compliance with all permit terms and conditions
- Assists with preparing and implementing the Quality Control program
- Assists with scheduling inspections and tests
- Assists with the punch list program
- Assists with and participates in weekly team meetings, maintain records
- Assists with and participates in weekly OAC meetings, maintain records
- Assists with and participates in weekly subcontractor meetings, maintain records
- Maintain positive, professional and productive relationships with the field personnel, subcontractors, Owners or Owners’ Representatives, Architects or design team, Inspectors and Union Officials
- Prepares and assists with timely completion and documentation of all punchlist corrections
- Assists with completion and submission of all closeout requirements:
- As built drawings
- Maintenance manuals and materials
- Final pay application
- Warranties
- Notice of Completion
- Assists with preparation of the project after action review
- Assists with maintaining all documents of project safety meeting minutes
- Assists with promoting safety to all project personnel and subcontractors
- Assists with compliance with all federal and state rules and regulations as well as the company safety program
- Assists with ensuring all operations are conducted in a safe manner consistent with the company’s safety program
Education
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or similar field.
- 2-5 years of hands on Project Engineering experience in residential or commercial construction.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively with all levels of personnel.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and perform quantity surveys
- Ability to comply with contract specifications.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Project.
