Job Description
Patient Service Representative
Bishop & Company is seeking highly motivated and resilient Patience Service Representatives (PSR) in various locations around Honolulu, a healthcare organization.
Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the department manager or designee, acts as a liaison between patients
and the professional staff by facilitating clerical and reception responsibilities and assisting in
administrative tasks. Interviews, registers, admits, updates, and creates patients’ medical records.
Performs accurate, complete, and timely processing of all professional / technical fees generated by
department providers. Performs cash handling and collection duties.
Requirements
1. Greets patients and maintains monitoring of patient flow to ensure customer service standards are
met.
2. Schedules and instructs patients in preparation for appointments and/or procedures (e.g.,
executive physicals, hospital admissions, diagnostic testing)
3. Registers new accounts and creates patient records. Ensures all patient information is completed.
Validates demographic and insurance information.
4. Ensures receipt of authorizations and/or referrals as required by insurance companies.
5. Assists with processing of authorizations and/or referrals, as necessary, with medical staff, as
required by insurance companies.
6. Collects, posts, provides receipt, and properly balances all payments.
7. Processes all charges generated by department physician/providers in a timely manner.
Reconciles daily all charges and payments.
8. Maintains department specific files, studies, programs, and/or recall systems.
9. Answers telephone promptly, properly, and courteously. Takes concise and accurate messages.
10. Communicates delays and/or emergencies to waiting patients.
11. Obtains medical records for the day. Prepares medical records following department/provider
guidelines. Responds promptly to requests for records.
12. Establishes and maintains clerical supplies and equipment.
13. Creates episodic accounts.
14. Communicates effectively with clinical staff, physicians, and team members to resolve charge
processing problems. Reconciles all problems efficiently.
15. Maintains proper and complete files and records of patients’ appointment logs, reject logs, and
numerical control over all charge documents.
Minimum Education / Training / Licensure / Certifications
• High school or equivalent.
• Basic computer skills.
• One year of clerical support in a healthcare setting or related experience.
Preferred Experience
• Experience with EPIC.
• Ability to work with all levels of internal and external customers.
• Ability to maintain highly sensitive, confidential material.
• Ability to answer telephones courteously.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of personal computer and related equipment.
• Provides hospitable customer service.
• Skill in 10-key by touch.
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
