Bishop & Co. is seeking a Controller for a reputable medium-sized credit union based in Honolulu, committed to excellence for both its members and employees.

This role is ideal for candidates at the Controller, Director of Accounting, or Accounting Manager levels.
The final title and responsibilities will be determined based on the candidate’s experience.

POSITION SUMMARY
Director of Accounting, Controller or Accounting Manager - We are looking for an experienced accounting leader to Provides leadership and management of the accounting function, including maintaining accounting systems, financial reporting, cost control, and general ledger oversight. Communicates financial positioning to senior management and the Board and participates in strategic planning and policy development. Oversees financial and regulatory reporting and daily department operations through staff supervision. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and credit union policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee accounting operations to ensure accuracy, effectiveness, and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate accounting systems, internal controls, and software/database needs.
  • Assist in producing budgets, forecasts, and performance metrics.
  • Manage the Asset Liability Management (ALM) program and prepare ALM reports for executives and the Board.
  • Analyze accounting and liquidity impacts of key business decisions.
  • Identify and mitigate balance sheet risks, implementing contingency plans as needed.
  • Monitor debt levels and ensure compliance with covenants.
  • Direct regulatory, financial, and tax reporting, ensuring adherence to deadlines.
  • Oversee and submit NCUA 5300 regulatory reports.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, legal, and regulatory standards; assist with audits.
  • Lead process improvements and implement program enhancements.
  • Manage staffing, performance, and development, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Stay informed of financial regulations and policies.
  • Represent the credit union at community and member events.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Director of Accounting:
Salary Range: $81,000 – $111,000, commensurate with experience and budget approved
  • Four-year post-secondary education degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related program from an accredited educational institution.
  • 10 years progressive senior financial leadership experience providing consultation to senior management, strategic planning, managing accounting and reporting functions, GAAP and regulatory and compliance experience.
  • Additional two years of above experience without post-secondary degree.
  • Five years leadership/management and team building experience.
  • Asset liability management (ALM) and modeling preferred.
  • MBA preferred, not required.

Controller:
Salary Range: $67,500 - $100,000, commensurate with experience and budget approved
  • Four-year post-secondary education degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related program from an accredited educational institution.
  • Eight years progressive senior financial leadership experience providing consultation to senior management, strategic planning, managing accounting and reporting functions, GAAP and regulatory and compliance experience.
  • Additional two years of above experience without post-secondary degree.
  • Three to five years leadership/management and team building experience.
  • MBA preferred, not required.

Accounting Manager:
Salary Range: $56,800 - $85,000, commensurate with experience and budget approved
 
  • Four-year post-secondary education degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related program from an accredited educational institution.
  • Six years progressive financial leadership experience providing consultation to senior management, strategic planning, managing accounting and reporting functions, GAAP and regulatory and compliance experience.
  • Additional two years of above experience without post-secondary degree.
  • Two to three years leadership/management and team building experience.
  • MBA preferred, not required.

All positions:
  • Demonstrated proficiency using personal computers and Microsoft Office and Adobe software.
  • Strong leadership ability to build strong working relationships and partnerships across the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify problems, analyze alternatives, implement solutions, establish and manage internal accounting controls.
  • Attention to detail and organization and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
