Deputy General Counsel – Honolulu, HI

Bishop & Company is partnering with a leading retail Hawai‘i-based organization to identify a Deputy General Counsel to join its Honolulu headquarters. This is an exciting opportunity for a licensed Hawaii attorney to take on a strategic legal role supporting executive leadership and advancing company-wide initiatives across a growing, multicultural enterprise.

What You’ll Do
  • Assist the General Counsel in managing all legal affairs for the company.
  • Provide guidance on compliance, risk management, and corporate governance.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements related to mergers, acquisitions, development, construction, employment, and vendors.
  • Oversee claims, investigations, and litigation matters.
  • Advise on HR, employment, and regulatory issues, ensuring adherence to laws and internal policies.
  • Manage and coordinate outside counsel.
  • Maintain corporate records including minutes, resolutions, and consents.
  • Support trademark, copyright, and intellectual property matters.
  • Provide legal training to leadership and staff on policies and procedures.
What We’re Looking For
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Hawaii.
  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Minimum 2–4 years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house counsel setting.
  • Strong understanding of corporate governance, compliance, and business law.
  • Experience working in multi-cultural environments (U.S. and Asia experience preferred).
  • Exceptional communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional judgment with the ability to balance legal and business considerations.
  • Positive, adaptable, and collaborative mindset.

The Details
  • Location: Honolulu, HI (In office - Headquarters)
  • Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt
  • Compensation: Up to $130K annual salary – bonus eligible, commensurate with experience and budget approved.
